Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society (RAPS) Launches Biennial Survey of Global Healthcare Product Regulatory Profession

Rockville, MD (PRWEB) January 31, 2012

The Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society (RAPS) is again conducting its biennial research initiative on the regulatory profession, the RAPS Global Scope of Practice & Compensation Survey, and is seeking participants from around the world.

The survey is the largest, most comprehensive study of the regulatory profession, and it is open to individuals anywhere in the world involved with the regulatory process for healthcare products. RAPS has conducted this research for more than 20 years. The data collected help regulatory professionals and the organizations that employ them to benchmark compensation against others in the field and better understand the wide range of responsibilities of those working in regulatory. The results also help RAPS support the development of the profession and create effective tools to support regulatory professionals career development.

This research is critically important to understanding the changing roles and responsibilities of regulatory professionals in the healthcare product sector, said RAPS Executive Director Sherry Keramidas, PhD, FASAE, CAE. Regulatory expertise is highly valued among organizations that develop, manufacture and market pharmaceuticals, medical technology and other healthcare products. RAPS research has shown that the regulatory profession has developed rapidly to become a key player in business and strategic decisions.

Results of the most recent Scope of Practice Survey in 2010 show regulatory professionals taking on a wider range of responsibilities, including critical business functions. In addition, their overall compensation continued to increase despite the recent economic downturn. More than 3,000 responses were received from 55 different countries to the 2010 survey.

The 2012 RAPS Global Scope of Practice & Compensation Survey is open now, and regulatory professionals can complete it online at http://www.raps.org/2012globalstudy. All participants may elect to receive a free copy of the final report. Those with the Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC) credential will receive one recertification credit. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and is anonymous and confidential.

RAPS will announce the results of the 2012 survey later this year.

Ambassador Betty E. King opened the U.S. Mission’s Earth Day Panel remarking that innovation and entrepreneurship are critical to economic growth and to the transition to a green economy.

Katherine Milligan of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship presented the concept of social entrepreneurship and how its network of ent…repreneurs operate in the green economy. Milligan moderated a Skype discussion with Recycla in Chile and Waste Concern in Bangladesh, companies focused on recycling and waste management, with ecological-minded and forward-looking business models.

The U.S. Mission also hosted a panel with representatives from the World Economic Forum, the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and Bamboo Finance. The panelists discussed the challenges to and opportunities arising from transitioning to a green economy with a particular focus on finance, policy and private sector involvement.
